THE
BEGINNING
Diary
ng Panget (2014) – James Reid and Nadine Lustre suddenly got all
the attention because of their sudden success with their first movie from VIVA
FILMS. Of course, since they’re this new love team, comparison cannot be avoided. But what made JaDine stood out from
the rest and connected them to what seemed to be the most successful love team
in PH – KathNiel – is, not only their huge success but also because of Nadine’s
resemblance to Kathryn Bernardo.
The so-called fanwar or fandom
war started when KN fans began comparing Nadine to Kathryn. First breakout of
the fight was when KN fans branded Nadine as a Copy-“KATH” because of their
similar facial features. James’ bad boy image in the movie DNP also became a
factor of the fights as it was a contrast to Daniel’s bad boy already-made
image.
Nadine’s growing fans, plus
the new breed JaDines, backlashed to what the KN fans started and thus, the
rest is history.
THE
ISSUES
After a year since The Beginning, a lot of issues happened
between the two fandoms. They weren’t the nicest things, especially the issues were
always hyped by the media, and brought shame to both love teams as it went on.
From fans threatening, insulting, bashing and disrespecting the artists to fans
creating fake accounts to start fights with other local/international fandoms just
to put the other into deep shit.

THE
CASUALTIES
People have to understand
that NOT ALL JaDine and KathNiel fans are fighting with each other. There are
fans who are friends with cofans from the other fandom who are frequently
dragged into the fanwars. In the world of fangirling, there’s this rule that Fault
of one, fault of all. It
means that one fault from a fan, the entire fandom will be responsible for it.
To be honest, there are groups from both fandoms who were dedicated into
defending their artists but would end up getting regular enemies themselves.
Aside from that, there are
fans that are just very young to be in social media. Most of the warfreak fans
from JD and KN are within the 12-15 age brackets. They are usually, but not all of them, very
fearless on fighting thru Twitter or Instagram and wouldn’t think twice on
whatever they post. Some fans, older ones, who joined the fanwar were either forced into it
by defending their artists – but there were fans who just wanted to get attention and jump into any fight.
They are the kind of fans
who would, for example, create a fake fan account, pretend she’s from the
opposing fandom – create fights with other fandoms so that the opposing fandom
would take the blame. These are the kind of fans who doesn’t think about their
idols at all. All they think about is getting attention on social media and
proving that they can fight with curses and insults unimaginable. These fans
only think of themselves. I don’t think they even consider what these fights
would bring to their fandoms or how it would reflect their artists. These fans
enjoyed the rush but completely disregarded the other fans that wanted nothing
but peace and were eventually pulled into the war as well because of their love
for the love team they support.
THE
CYCLE
If I can remember correctly,
there used to be a JD KN Friendship Day
when some of the fans from both fandoms decided to make a truce and call it
quits on fighting. But that didn’t last long. Because there would always be
fans that would start a fight and bash one of the artists.
It is a nonstop, senseless
and dumb fucking cycle
When a fan bashed an artist,
the opposing fan would bash the other artist – and thus, the stupidity of it
all.
Worst part is, it is quite
unavoidable. The lower the hits on bashing, the greater the fight became. That’s
why it could never stop unless the entire fandoms would unite into getting
peace. As long as there is a fan throwing hate on one of the artists, it would
never stop. Because fans are very protective of their artists. Fans are very
emotional, passionate and over-protective. Whenever the bashing gets worse, it even
worsens the backlash. It is a sad cycle that needs a lot of time to make it
stop.

THE
SAD TRUTH
Daniel Padilla, Nadine
Lustre and James Reid had already given their pleas to the fans to STOP THE FANWARS. All three of them had
urged their fans to ignore all the bashing and hates so that it would benefit both
fandoms. Everyone is still waiting for Kathryn Bernardo to do the same and ask
her fans to stop fighting with the opposing side. Unfortunately, despite the 3/4
request – fans wouldn’t listen.
Why? Because there are immature
kids who are too early to be on Social Media and warfreak fans who are
inconsiderate of their cofans and the artists they love.
If you ask me, I don’t think
peace will come to both fandoms any time soon.
Unless of course, we could
see the two love teams hanging out or be really friends so that the fans could
follow suit.
Still, I am not giving up
hope. I’m still waiting for that factor that could stop the fanwar and make a change.
I am hoping for anything that would put a stop into this senseless, endless and
mindless war of people who could actually be friends rather than foes.
It might not be achievable
in an instant, but I am sincerely hoping that this fandom war would eventually
end in the long run.
Good luck to both fandom and to their fans as well.
